ISTANBUL
Russian President Vladimir Putin is scheduled to arrive in Anchorage, Alaska, at 11 a.m. local time (1900 GMT), where US President Donald Trump will meet him on the plane, Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov confirmed Friday.
In an interview with Russia 1, published on Telegram, Peskov stated that Putin’s flight from Magadan, a coastal city in Russia, is expected to be on schedule. During the four-hour journey, the president will review documents related to the summit.
Peskov noted that resolving the Ukraine conflict will be a primary focus of the discussions, alongside potential economic cooperation projects and other points of tension in US-Russia relations, described as “mutual irritants.” Regional and international matters are also expected to feature in the talks.
The meeting, anticipated to last six to seven hours, will include one-on-one sessions between the two leaders, as well as discussions with their aides. The Russian side expressed optimism about a productive outcome.
This summit marks the first meeting between a sitting US president and a Russian president since the Russia-Ukraine war began in February 2022.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy previously stated that Trump had indicated his willingness to offer Ukraine security guarantees. Trump also mentioned the possibility of territorial swaps between Russia and Ukraine as part of a peace agreement, warning Putin of “very severe consequences” if he fails to reach a settlement at the summit. Zelenskyy has consistently rejected any territorial concessions.
