MOSCOW
The Kremlin announced Saturday that the opening round of discussions between Russian President Vladimir Putin and US President Donald Trump in Alaska has come to an end.
The dialogue extended for over three hours, with both leaders joined by two senior officials from their respective delegations.
Representing Russia were Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov and Presidential Advisor on International Affairs Yury Ushakov. On the American side, Secretary of State Marco Rubio and Special Envoy Steve Witkoff took part.
The Anchorage meeting marked the first direct exchange between the Russian and US presidents in more than four years, the last being in 2021 when Putin met then-President Joe Biden in Geneva.
For Putin, this trip signified his first visit to the United States in a decade. His previous journey was in 2015, when he traveled to New York to address the UN General Assembly.
