Walter Cup Race Intensifies Following Game 5 Postponement

The highly anticipated deciding Game 5 between the Montreal Victoire and the Minnesota Frost has officially been pushed to Tuesday night after the league postponed the matchup because of player illness concerns.

The Professional Women’s Hockey League announced the decision only hours before the scheduled puck drop on Monday, citing health and safety as the top priority. League officials confirmed the crucial semifinal clash will now take place Tuesday at 7 p.m. ET at Place Bell.

The winner of the dramatic showdown will secure a place in the Walter Cup final against the Ottawa Charge, who recently booked their championship berth after eliminating Boston in an intense semifinal series.

According to the league, the postponement followed consultations with medical experts to ensure the protection of players, staff, fans, and everyone connected to the event. Officials later clarified that the illnesses affecting certain individuals were not linked to hantavirus, easing fears surrounding the situation.

Fans who already purchased tickets for the original Game 5 will still be able to use them for Tuesday’s rescheduled contest. The league also confirmed that ticket holders who bought through official platforms will receive direct communication regarding event details.

The upcoming clash now carries even greater intensity, with both teams fighting for the final ticket to the Walter Cup championship series. The victorious side will earn home-ice advantage for the opening two games of the final before the series shifts to Ottawa later in May.
