Norway’s King Harald V Hospitalized During Spain Visit
WASHINGTON – February 25, 2026
Norway’s monarch, Harald V, has been admitted to a hospital in Spain, the Royal House of Norway confirmed on Tuesday. The 89-year-old king is currently receiving medical treatment while on a private holiday.
According to the palace, doctors admitted King Harald to Hospital Universitario Hospiten Sur in Tenerife on Tuesday evening.
Medical Condition and Treatment
Medical staff are treating the King for an infection and dehydration. However, the palace reported that his overall condition remains “good.”
In addition, his personal physician will travel to Tenerife to support local health professionals and oversee his care.
Private Holiday in Spain
King Harald and Queen Sonja had been staying on the Spanish island for a private winter break.
Harald V has served as Norway’s head of state since 1991, when he ascended to the throne. Since then, he has played a central role in the country’s constitutional monarchy.
