Russia Detains Suspect in Nuclear Protection Chief’s Murder

Russia’s Federal Security Service (FSB) has arrested an Uzbek national suspected of assassinating Lt. Gen. Igor Kirillov, head of the nation’s Radiation, Chemical, and Biological Protection Defense Forces. The suspect, recruited by Ukrainian special services, allegedly received $100,000 and a European passport in exchange for the assassination. The FSB stated the suspect admitted to planning the attack, which involved a homemade bomb planted on a scooter. The bombing, which killed Kirillov and his assistant, was classified as a “terrorist attack.” Russia’s authorities are investigating the case, and discussions regarding the assassination will be raised at the upcoming UN Security Council meeting.
