Saudi Arabia Launches Heat Safety Plan for Hajj 2025 Pilgrims

Authorities Urge Hydration, Shade Breaks, and Sun Protection Amid Rising Temperatures

April 22, 2025 | Makkah (News Desk) — Saudi Arabia has introduced a comprehensive heat protection plan for Hajj 2025, aiming to safeguard millions of pilgrims expected to perform the annual Islamic pilgrimage amid extreme summer temperatures.

The Saudi Ministry of Hajj and Umrah, in coordination with health and safety authorities, has released an official safety guide advising pilgrims to avoid direct exposure to sunlight, drink plenty of water, and take regular breaks in shaded or air-cooled areas.

“With temperatures expected to soar, it is essential that pilgrims take every precaution to prevent heat-related illnesses,” the ministry said in a statement.

The guide also recommends wearing light-colored, loose-fitting clothing and using umbrellas or hats during outdoor rituals. Medical teams and cooling stations will be stationed across key pilgrimage sites, including Mina, Arafat, and Muzdalifah.

Hajj, which is set to begin in mid-June this year, will coincide with peak summer heat, prompting Saudi authorities to intensify public health campaigns and implement preventive strategies to reduce the risk of heatstroke, dehydration, and exhaustion.

The plan is part of Saudi Arabia’s broader efforts to enhance the Hajj experience and ensure the well-being of all international and domestic pilgrims.
