The Saudi-led coalition supporting Yemen’s internationally recognized government said Thursday that its air defenses intercepted and destroyed two ballistic missiles and four drones over southern Saudi Arabia.
According to the coalition, the two missiles were brought down over Khamis Mushait and Jazan, while all four drones were intercepted over Khamis Mushait.
The coalition said its forces would continue taking operational steps aimed at deterring the Houthi group, but provided no information about possible casualties or property damage from the latest attacks.
Earlier, the coalition said a drone attack it attributed to the Houthis had targeted an electricity distribution station in Medina on Sept. 29. Coalition spokesman Maj. Gen. Turki al-Maliki said the attack caused one transformer to stop operating but did not disrupt the wider electricity network.
The coalition also reported on Sept. 15 that Saudi air defenses had intercepted a drone it attributed to the Houthis south of Mecca, before it could enter the city’s restricted airspace.
Saudi Arabia has led a military coalition backing Yemen’s internationally recognized government against the Houthis since March 2015. The Houthis have controlled the capital, Sanaa, and several other provinces since 2014.
