Pakistan’s Prime Minister Urges India to Resume Dialogue on Kashmir, Trade, and Regional Peace
Islamabad – May 17, 2025
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has urged India to move past decades of hostility and engage in meaningful dialogue to resolve long-standing issues, including the Kashmir dispute, trade relations, and regional terrorism.
Speaking at a ceremony marking Youm-e-Tashakur—a national day of gratitude—Sharif emphasized the importance of peaceful coexistence between the two nuclear-armed neighbors. The event, held at the Pakistan Monument, commemorated what officials described as a symbolic military triumph.
“Pakistan seeks peaceful relations with all its neighbors, including India. We have fought three wars and achieved nothing. It’s time to talk about solutions—especially Kashmir, trade, and terrorism,” Sharif stated.
The prime minister highlighted the heavy toll terrorism has taken on Pakistan, noting the loss of 90,000 lives and economic damages exceeding $150 billion. He praised the leadership of Pakistan’s armed forces for their role in securing the country and thanked military chiefs for their continued service.
Sharif also reflected on Pakistan’s recovery from the trauma of the 1971 conflict, calling the national celebration a powerful moment of unity and resilience.
