Shortened Chicago Pride Parade Declared a Success

LAKEVIEW — The 2024 Chicago Pride Parade was deemed a success, even with a shorter route and an earlier start time of 11 a.m., wrapping up by 2 p.m. This year’s adjustments, which included removing Uptown from the route, aimed to streamline city resources typically strained by longer parades.

PRIDEChicago, the organizing body, received positive feedback for the parade’s joyous atmosphere, celebrating the theme “Pride is Power,” which emphasizes visibility and change for the LGBTQ+ community since the first march in 1970. Grand marshals included notable figures like comedian Fortune Feimster and LGBTQ+ rights pioneers Art Johnston and Jose “Pepe” Peña.

While the parade itself was peaceful, over 50 arrests were made later that night in Lakeview due to disturbances, with multiple charges filed against individuals involved. City officials expressed disappointment over the post-parade events but recognized the overall success of the celebration
