Mount Fuji received its first snowfall after the longest snowless period in 130 years. The snow arrived about a month later than usual, following one of Japan’s hottest summers. Locals celebrated the sight of the snow-covered peak, sharing photos online. The snow was first spotted on November 6 by the Japan Meteorological Agency in Shizuoka. Though clouds initially obscured the view, it was confirmed on November 7. This late snowfall is the most delayed in recent records, with the previous latest snowfall occurring on October 26 in 2016 and 1955. The warmer-than-usual weather in Japan, with summer temperatures 1.76°C higher than average, is consistent with predictions of climate change impacts.
