Starlink Suspended in India After Second Device Seizure

Starlink’s satellite internet services have been suspended in India following the seizure of two of its devices in separate incidents, one linked to an armed conflict zone in Manipur and the other involved in a major drug smuggling operation. Elon Musk confirmed on social media that the satellite beams were “turned off” in India and had never been operational, responding to reports from the Indian Army about a seized Starlink dish in the northeastern state of Manipur. The device, which authorities say was likely used by militants, had crossed over from Myanmar, where Starlink’s services are also unavailable. Earlier this month, Indian police also requested purchase details from Starlink regarding a device found on smugglers caught with a huge methamphetamine haul, suggesting it was used for navigation purposes. Starlink, seeking regulatory approval in India, is addressing security concerns as part of its efforts to launch satellite broadband services.
