British Prime Minister Keir Starmer welcomed recent progress toward a possible agreement between the United States and Iran, emphasizing the importance of achieving a durable diplomatic resolution to regional tensions.
In a statement shared on X, Starmer said the UK would coordinate closely with international allies to support efforts aimed at restoring long-term stability and reducing conflict in the Middle East. He stressed the urgent need for an agreement capable of ending hostilities and reopening the Strait of Hormuz to guarantee unrestricted maritime navigation.
Starmer reaffirmed Britain’s stance that Iran must never acquire nuclear weapons and stated that his government would continue taking measures to safeguard British citizens from the consequences of regional instability. He added that cooperation with global partners remained essential for securing a sustainable diplomatic outcome.
The remarks followed comments from Donald Trump, who said a potential agreement with Iran was largely finalized after discussions with regional leaders. According to Trump, the deal could help end the conflict that erupted on Feb. 28 and contributed to the effective closure of the strategically important Strait of Hormuz.
