Trump Condemns Deadly Israeli Strikes on Gaza Hospital
US President Voices Concern
U.S. President Donald Trump expressed strong disapproval Monday over Israeli airstrikes on Gaza’s Nasser Medical Complex that killed 20 people, including five journalists and a firefighter. “I’m not happy about this. I do not want to see it,” Trump told reporters in the Oval Office. “At the same time, we need to end this nightmare. I secured the hostages’ release.”
Casualties and Damage
The Gaza Health Ministry confirmed the deaths of patients, medical staff, civil defense personnel, and media crews, with many others injured. The Israeli military targeted the fourth floor of one hospital building with two airstrikes. The second strike occurred while rescue teams were evacuating the wounded and recovering the deceased. Among the killed were Palestinian journalists Hussam al-Masri, Mohammad Salama, Mariam Abu Dagga, Moaz Abu Taha, and freelance reporter Ahmed Abu Aziz.
Hostage Situation
Trump indicated that “slightly fewer than 20” hostages remain alive in Gaza. He warned that once only 10–20 hostages remain, release becomes unlikely, describing the situation as “very grim and tragic.”
Conflict Outlook
Speaking with South Korean President Lee Jae-myung, Trump said he believes the war is “approaching a climax and nearing conclusion,” expecting a decisive resolution in the next two to three weeks. Israel aims to secure Gaza City amid ongoing military operations that have killed over 62,700 Palestinians since October 2023.
International Accountability
Last year, the International Criminal Court issued arrest warrants for Prime Minister Netanyahu and former Defense Minister Yoav Gallant for war crimes. Israel also faces a genocide case at the International Court of Justice.
