Trump Threatens Iran Energy and Water Infrastructure

Iran Faces Potential Strikes as Indirect Talks Progress

Trump Warns Iran of Potential Strikes on Energy and Water Infrastructure

WASHINGTON / ISTANBUL – US President Donald Trump has warned that Iran’s key energy and water facilities could be destroyed if ongoing negotiations fail. The discussions aim to end joint US-Israeli strikes in the region.

Trump stated on his social media platform Truth Social on Monday, “If a deal is not reached soon, and if the Hormuz Strait is not immediately open, we will conclude our presence in Iran by destroying all electric power plants, oil wells, Kharg Island, and potentially all desalination plants.”

Despite the stern warning, Trump emphasized that negotiations were progressing with what he described as a “new and more reasonable” Iranian leadership. He later told Bloomberg that Iran seeks a resolution, indicating that the situation is moving in a positive direction.

Iran, however, clarified that it has not held direct talks with the US. Recent contacts occurred only through intermediaries. Several regional countries, including Pakistan, Türkiye, and Egypt, are facilitating indirect communication between Washington and Tehran. Pakistan’s Foreign Minister, Ishaq Dar, expressed Islamabad’s readiness to host formal discussions.

Indirect diplomatic efforts reportedly continue, with Trump noting that talks via Pakistani intermediaries could lead to a deal quickly.

The current tensions follow a US-Israeli air offensive on February 28, which killed 1,340 people, including senior Iranian officials. In retaliation, Iran has carried out drone and missile strikes against Israel, Jordan, Iraq, and Gulf states hosting US forces. These actions have caused casualties, infrastructure damage, and disruptions to global markets and aviation.
