WASHINGTON: US President Donald Trump has praised grocery retailer Giant Eagle after the company announced temporary price reductions on hundreds of products, urging other supermarket chains to introduce similar measures to ease the financial burden on American households.
The Pittsburgh-based grocery chain said it will reduce prices on more than 300 everyday items through Labor Day as part of an effort to help consumers manage rising household expenses during the summer.
Reacting to the announcement on his Truth Social platform, Trump described Giant Eagle as a company committed to supporting working families. He compared the initiative to similar pricing efforts by Walmart and encouraged more retailers to follow their lead by offering lower prices on essential goods.
Trump also argued that his administration’s economic policies have contributed to declining costs for key necessities, including gasoline, eggs, and prescription medications. He contrasted the current economic situation with that of the previous administration, criticizing former President Joe Biden over inflation and higher living costs.
The president reiterated that reducing the cost of everyday essentials remains a priority for his administration and said he expects additional businesses to take steps that provide financial relief to American consumers.
