Trump Withholds Decision on Potential Iran Strikes

Trump Expresses Frustration Over Iran Negotiations

Trump Declines to Reveal Decision on Potential Iran Strikes

WASHINGTON | 28 February 2026

President Avoids Direct Answer on Military Action

Donald Trump declined to say how close he is to authorizing possible military strikes against Iran, as concerns grow over rising tensions involving Iran, the United States, and Israel.

While speaking to reporters in Texas, where he was scheduled to deliver remarks on energy policy, Trump avoided giving a clear timeline. “I’d rather not tell you,” he said, suggesting that revealing such details would be highly significant.

Call for Agreement With Tehran

When asked about his message to Iran’s Supreme Leader, Ali Khamenei, Trump urged Tehran to reach an agreement with Washington. However, he added that Iranian officials appear reluctant to finalize a deal.

Furthermore, the president expressed frustration over decades of strained relations between the two countries. He stated that tensions have continued for many years and accused Iran of actions that harmed US personnel and interests.

Additional Talks Expected

Earlier in the day, Trump confirmed that US officials planned to hold further discussions with Iranian representatives. He did not provide details on whether those talks concluded or what progress they achieved.

Before departing for Texas, he said he was dissatisfied with Iran’s negotiation stance. According to Trump, the US seeks specific commitments, but Tehran has not yet agreed to them.

Geneva Negotiations Continue

Trump’s remarks followed the third round of indirect negotiations between US and Iranian delegations in Geneva.

Meanwhile, Badr Albusaidi, who serves as mediator, met with JD Vance in Washington. Albusaidi said he shared updates on the discussions and noted that progress had been made.

He expressed appreciation for continued engagement and voiced hope for meaningful advances in the coming days. According to him, a peaceful outcome remains possible.
