Bomb Threat Linked to Chinese Dance Group Tour Prompts Security Response
CANBERRA – February 25, 2026
Australian authorities responded to a bomb scare at the official residence of Prime Minister Anthony Albanese, following written threats connected to a Chinese performing arts group.
According to local media reports, individuals claiming to target the home of the prime minister sent emails to performers of Shen Yun. The messages warned the group to cancel its upcoming shows in Australia or face explosives being detonated at the leader’s residence in Canberra.
Background to the Threat
Beijing has banned Shen Yun, a dance and music company known for performances rooted in traditional Chinese culture. The group has links to Falun Gong, a religious movement that Chinese authorities have also outlawed.
A newspaper affiliated with the Falun Gong movement first reported the alleged threats. However, officials have not publicly confirmed the details of the emails.
Police Response
Security services attended what they described as an “alleged security incident” at the prime minister’s residence on Tuesday. After conducting checks, officers reported that they found nothing suspicious at the property.
Authorities declined to comment further on the origin or authenticity of the emails. Nevertheless, the incident has raised concerns about security and political tensions linked to international cultural events.
