Türkiye Condemns Israel’s Recognition of Somaliland
Türkiye has strongly criticised Israel’s decision to recognise Somaliland, Somalia’s self-declared breakaway region, calling the move unlawful and destabilising.
In a statement issued on Thursday, the Turkish Foreign Ministry said Israel’s recognition violates international law and undermines Somalia’s sovereignty and territorial integrity.
Ankara Rejects Recognition Move
Foreign Ministry spokesman Serdar Dincel said Israel’s action represents “another unlawful step” by the Netanyahu government. He warned that such decisions risk increasing instability at both regional and global levels.
According to Dincel, Türkiye remains committed to Somalia’s unity and supports internationally recognised borders. He stressed that unilateral actions cannot change Somaliland’s legal status under international law.
Warning Over Regional Stability
Türkiye also cautioned that recognising breakaway regions could set a dangerous precedent. Ankara believes such steps encourage political fragmentation and threaten long-term peace efforts in Africa and beyond.
The ministry urged all countries to respect international law and avoid policies that could deepen regional tensions.
