On August 9, 2024, the Department of Defense (DoD) announced a new tranche of security assistance to Ukraine, marking the sixty-third package provided under the Biden Administration since August 2021. Valued at an estimated $125 million, this latest Presidential Drawdown Authority (PDA) package aims to address Ukraine’s most urgent security and defense needs in the ongoing conflict with Russia.
The newly announced assistance includes critical air defense capabilities, multi-mission radars to detect and counter enemy artillery, and a range of anti-tank weapons. Specific items in this package include:
- Stinger missiles
- Ammunition for High Mobility Artillery Rocket Systems (HIMARS)
- 155mm and 105mm artillery ammunition
- Multi-mission radars
- Tube-launched, Optically tracked, Wire-guided (TOW) missiles
- Javelin and AT-4 anti-armor systems
- High Mobility Multipurpose Wheeled Vehicle (HMMWV) ambulances
- Small arms ammunition
- Demolitions equipment and munitions
- Equipment to protect critical national infrastructure
- Spare parts, ancillary equipment, services, training, and transportation
This assistance underscores the United States’ ongoing commitment to supporting Ukraine’s defense against Russian aggression.
