Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has said Russia launched more than 200 drones overnight, marking what he described as the end of a partial ceasefire.
Writing on the social media platform X, Zelenskyy warned that Ukraine would respond to all Russian actions in kind. He also accused Moscow of firing over 80 aerial bombs and conducting more than 30 airstrikes across multiple regions.
According to Zelenskyy, Ukrainian air defenses intercepted drones over several areas including Kyiv, Dnipro, Zhytomyr, Mykolaiv, Sumy, Kharkiv, Chernihiv, and surrounding regions. He added that strikes damaged energy infrastructure, residential buildings, a kindergarten, and a civilian locomotive in the Dnipropetrovsk region.
The president reported casualties, including both injuries and fatalities, and expressed condolences to the families of those killed. He reiterated calls for Russia to end the war and urged the international community to impose stronger sanctions to secure a lasting ceasefire.
Meanwhile, Russia’s Defense Ministry claimed its forces intercepted 31 Ukrainian drones over several regions, including Belgorod, Volgograd, Voronezh, and Rostov, according to reports published on Telegram.
Independent verification of battlefield claims remains limited due to the ongoing conflict.
The escalation follows the expiry of a short ceasefire proposal linked to US President Donald Trump, which ended on Monday evening. The proposal had included a temporary truce and a large-scale prisoner exchange agreement.
Earlier, Russia announced a unilateral ceasefire tied to Victory Day commemorations, while Ukraine later declared its own temporary halt in hostilities. Both sides subsequently accused each other of violating the agreements.
