USCIS Expands SAVE Program for Voter Verification
U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services has upgraded the Systematic Alien Verification for Entitlements (SAVE) program to help states verify that only U.S. citizens vote in federal elections. The new update allows states to confirm voter citizenship using the last four digits of a Social Security number instead of the full one.
USCIS spokesperson Matthew Tragesser said the agency remains fully committed to safeguarding the integrity of national elections. He added that by streamlining the verification process, the agency ensures voting remains a right exclusive to American citizens. Furthermore, he encouraged all federal, state, and local agencies to adopt the SAVE program for stronger security.
This enhancement also supports Executive Order 14248, Preserving and Protecting the Integrity of American Elections. It enables authorized agencies, particularly those managing voter registration, to initiate SAVE verification cases without a Department of Homeland Security ID or full Social Security number.
Currently, 26 states use or are finalizing agreements with SAVE to verify voter eligibility. Additionally, officials at all government levels are being urged to join these efforts to prevent voter fraud and strengthen public trust in the U.S. electoral system.
