Uzbekistan and US Leaders Agree to Expand Strategic Partnership

ISTANBUL — Uzbekistan’s President Shavkat Mirziyoyev and US President Donald Trump held a phone call on Friday, during which they agreed to strengthen their strategic partnership and enhance cooperation in areas of mutual interest, according to the Uzbek presidency.

Trump praised Uzbekistan’s “irreversible reforms” aimed at modernizing the economy and raising living standards. In return, Mirziyoyev congratulated Trump on the “impressive achievements” of the US administration in both domestic and foreign policy.

The leaders discussed a wide range of issues, including business partnerships, security collaboration, cultural exchanges, and regional cooperation. They emphasized boosting trade, which increased by 15% in 2024, and advancing projects in civil aviation, critical minerals, energy, agriculture, digital technologies, finance, innovation, and education.

“A series of bilateral meetings and negotiations will be held this month with leading US companies to establish long-term and sustainable partnerships,” the Uzbek presidency said.

The conversation also addressed joint efforts against terrorism, extremism, and illegal migration, along with expanding cultural and humanitarian exchanges. Several US university branches already operate in Tashkent, and Uzbekistan’s national team will participate in next year’s World Cup in the US for the first time.

The presidents also exchanged views on international and regional issues, including cooperation within the C5+1 framework, which brings together Central Asian states and the United States.

Mirziyoyev invited Trump to visit Uzbekistan officially at a convenient time, and both leaders agreed to maintain high-level contacts to support joint projects. The Uzbek presidency described the call as conducted in an “open, constructive, and friendly atmosphere.”
