Police in Liverpool have launched a murder investigation after the body of a woman believed to be in her 70s was discovered inside a black bin bag at Stanley Park.
Merseyside Police said officers were called to the park’s walled garden on Friday evening after receiving a report from a member of the public. They arrived at around 5:25 p.m. local time and discovered the woman’s remains.
Detective Superintendent Rachel Wilson said investigators have so far been unable to establish the woman’s identity. Police believe her body may have remained inside the bin bag at the location for several weeks.
Authorities described the woman as white, approximately 5 feet 2 inches tall and of small build. She had strawberry-blonde hair.
Assistant Chief Constable Andy Ryan described the incident as a deeply shocking crime and urged the public to come forward with any information that could help identify the woman.
Police are particularly appealing to anyone who may recognise the description or has recently become concerned about an elderly woman they know who has not been seen or heard from.
Authorities have asked anyone with potentially relevant information to contact police urgently.
