Iran Seeks Compensation from Arab States Over Alleged Role in Strikes
Tehran Raises Claims at the United Nations
Iran has called for compensation from five Arab countries—Saudi Arabia, United Arab Emirates, Bahrain, Qatar, and Jordan—accusing them of supporting recent US-Israeli military strikes.
In a formal letter, Iran presented its concerns to Antonio Guterres and the UN Security Council leadership.
Allegations of Violating International Obligations
Iran’s UN ambassador, Amir Saeid Iravani, stated that these countries violated international obligations by allegedly enabling attacks against Iran.
He argued that, as a result, they should accept responsibility and compensate Iran for the damage caused during the conflict.
Conflict Background and Escalation
Tensions in the region increased after the United States and Israel launched joint military strikes on Iran on February 28. These attacks reportedly caused significant casualties.
In response, Iran carried out retaliatory strikes targeting Israel as well as locations in Iraq, Jordan, and Gulf countries that host US military facilities.
Ceasefire and Ongoing Diplomatic Efforts
Although both sides agreed to a two-week ceasefire last week, the situation remains fragile. Iranian and US officials later held extended talks in Islamabad, which lasted 21 hours but ended without a final agreement.
As diplomatic efforts continue, tensions across the region remain high.
