East Jerusalem — Hundreds of illegal Israeli settlers stormed into the Al-Aqsa Mosque complex in occupied East Jerusalem on Wednesday to mark the Jewish holiday of Shavuot, also known as the Feast of Weeks.
According to the official Palestinian news agency Wafa, the settlers performed Talmudic rituals within the complex. Local sources estimated that hundreds of settlers entered the Al-Aqsa Mosque complex and the Al-Buraq Wall, which Jews refer to as the Wailing Wall.
To facilitate the settlers’ entry, Israeli forces closed roads near the Damascus Gate area and imposed tightened restrictions, hindering the entry of Palestinian worshippers into the mosque.
Al-Aqsa Mosque is considered the third-holiest site in Islam. Jews refer to the area as the Temple Mount, believed to be the site of two ancient Jewish temples.
Israel occupied East Jerusalem, where Al-Aqsa is located, during the 1967 Arab-Israeli War and annexed the entire city in 1980, a move not recognized by the international community.–News Desk
