Over 60 Dead as Severe Flooding Hits Three Indian States

NEW DELHI—More than 60 people have lost their lives due to severe flooding across three Indian states, officials reported on Monday. The devastating floods, triggered by heavy rains over the past several days, have impacted Gujarat in the west, and Andhra Pradesh and Telangana in the south.

Gujarat has been the hardest hit, with over 45 fatalities reported. In Telangana, nine people have died, while Andhra Pradesh has recorded ten deaths. Andhra Pradesh’s Chief Minister, N. Chandrababu Naidu, has pledged to expedite relief efforts and urged residents to stay strong during this challenging time. “I wish the affected people to be brave,” Naidu said.

In Telangana, Chief Minister Revanth Reddy announced a financial assistance package of 500,000 Indian Rupees (approximately $5,960) for the families of those who lost their lives in the floods. Reddy has also called on the federal government to declare the disaster a “national calamity.”

Opposition leader Rahul Gandhi extended his condolences to the victims’ families and urged Congress leaders and workers to mobilize resources to support relief and rescue operations. “I urge Congress leaders and workers to mobilize all available resources to support the ongoing relief and rescue efforts,” Gandhi wrote on X.–News Desk
