ISTANBUL (AA) – According to Canada’s statistical agency, payroll employment increased by 13,500 in August. This follows a rise of 39,500 in July and a drop of 22,900 in June. Year-over-year, employment was up by 176,700 compared to August of the previous year.
Job vacancies held steady at 518,300 in August, following three months of decline, though this figure is down significantly from a year ago, showing a drop of 176,300 or 25.4%.
In August, the healthcare and social assistance sector led job growth with an addition of 12,000 jobs (0.5%), followed by public administration (5,400 jobs) and wholesale trade (3,600 jobs), both seeing a 0.4% increase. However, six sectors, including entertainment and recreation as well as administrative support, experienced declines, each losing 2,400 jobs.
Average weekly earnings in August remained relatively stable after a 0.9% rise in July, showing an annual increase of 4.6% compared to the same month last year.
