In Kazakhstan’s Akmola region, a devastating crash involving 95 vehicles left at least 12 people injured on Friday, following hazardous weather conditions. The collision occurred along the Astana-Petropavl highway, a crucial route connecting Kazakhstan’s northern city of Petropavl to its capital, Astana. KazAvtoJol, the country’s highway operator, reported that traffic restrictions had been enforced due to deteriorating weather, including poor visibility and a storm.
The wreckage, which occurred near the village of Zhanatalap, located 27 kilometers north of Astana, resulted in a chaotic scene of twisted metal and halted traffic. Emergency responders rushed the injured to nearby hospitals, while authorities worked to clear the road. By 9 p.m., 85 out of the 95 vehicles involved had been removed from the scene, and recovery operations continued.
KazAvtoJol updated the public on Telegram, noting that while the road had been cleared once weather conditions improved, the aftermath of the massive pileup posed significant challenges. The storm’s impact on visibility and the icy road conditions contributed to the chain-reaction collision.
