North Korean leader Kim Jong Un recently made a rare visit to the Kumsusan Palace of the Sun in Pyongyang to honor his late father, Kim Jong Il, marking his first appearance at the mausoleum in four years. Joined by his sister Kim Yo Jong and other top officials, Kim Jong Un expressed deep respect for his father and grandfather, Kim Il Sung, whose embalmed bodies rest there, according to state media.
During his visit, Kim reaffirmed his commitment to what he described as the “sacred struggle” to ensure North Korea’s prosperity and safeguard the welfare of its people. His remarks highlight his ongoing dedication to upholding the legacy of his predecessors.
In addition to the tribute, Kim Jong Un also oversaw the groundbreaking ceremony for the final phase of his ambitious housing project in Pyongyang. Initiated in 2021, the project aims to build 50,000 new homes over five years, with an annual target of delivering 10,000 apartments. Despite facing economic obstacles and global sanctions, significant progress has been made, with the completion of nearly four times as many units last year compared to 2020.
These actions illustrate Kim Jong Un’s dual focus on honoring his family’s legacy and improving the living conditions of North Korea’s citizens. The housing project is seen as a key element of his broader vision for national development and addressing the needs of the population.
