A serious train collision in northern Denmark has left at least four people in critical condition, with emergency teams continuing rescue operations at the scene.
The accident occurred early Thursday morning on the Gribskov Railway near Kagerup in North Zealand, where two trains collided head-on, according to Danish broadcaster DR.
Police confirmed that a large emergency response was deployed, involving around 60 personnel working at the site. Authorities said rescue operations were still underway as teams assessed the full extent of the incident.
Regional health officials reported that at least four passengers are in critical condition, while several others sustained varying degrees of injury.
Emergency services stated that all injured individuals were transported from the scene by ambulance and helicopter for urgent medical treatment. Uninjured passengers were gathered at a designated safe location.
Capital Emergency Services confirmed the evacuations in a statement shared on social media, noting the coordinated response from rescue teams.
Gribskov Mayor Trine Egetved said some of the injured were airlifted to Rigshospitalet in Copenhagen and expressed deep concern over the incident, describing it as shocking and distressing for the local community.
She highlighted that the railway line is heavily used by commuters, including workers and schoolchildren, and said local authorities are supporting those affected.
