Venezuelan Opposition Leader Presents Nobel Medal to Trump
WASHINGTON — Venezuelan opposition leader María Corina Machado said she gave her Nobel Peace Prize medal to President Donald Trump during a White House meeting. She described the gesture as a way to honor what she called his support for freedom in Venezuela.
The Nobel Peace Prize itself, however, cannot be transferred. While Machado can present the physical medal, the official award and title remain hers.
Machado told reporters she offered the medal “in recognition of his unique commitment to our freedom.” She later addressed lawmakers on Capitol Hill, emphasizing the importance of international support for Venezuela’s political transition.
Trump accepted the medal and thanked Machado, describing the moment as a symbol of mutual respect. Observers noted that some critics see the gesture as unusual and inconsistent with the intended spirit of the Nobel Prize.
