Syrian Army Enters Deir Hafir as YPG SDF Forces Withdraw
Syrian military advances west of the Euphrates
ISTANBUL — The Syrian Army announced on Saturday that its units have begun entering areas west of the Euphrates River, starting with Deir Hafir, a city located east of Aleppo. The development follows the announced withdrawal of the YPG/SDF armed group from the area.
According to a statement from the Operations Command of the Syrian Arab Army, advance units moved into Deir Hafir as part of ongoing military operations in the region. State-run Al-Ikhbariya TV confirmed the entry and reported that forces are securing key locations.
Civilians urged to avoid military zones
Earlier, the Syrian Army warned civilians to stay away from designated military operation areas. Officials stressed that troops are still clearing landmines and unexploded remnants of war to ensure safety before allowing civilian movement.
Military sources emphasized that these precautions aim to prevent civilian casualties and reduce risks during the stabilization phase.
Withdrawal claim by YPG SDF leadership
The advance follows a statement by Ferhat Abdi Sahin, a senior figure in the YPG/SDF, who claimed that armed elements would withdraw to regions east of the Euphrates. He said the pullback would begin at 7 a.m. local time (0400 GMT) on Saturday.
The Syrian Army has recently intensified operations west of the Euphrates, targeting positions previously held by the group.
