Italy wants to increase the presence of its companies in Türkiye and expand economic cooperation with Ankara, including through joint projects in third-country markets and across the Mediterranean.
Italian Foreign Minister Antonio Tajani made the comments on Friday after meeting Turkish Trade Minister Omer Bolat in Rome. The two officials discussed bilateral trade and economic relations, as well as the effects of the Red Sea and Strait of Hormuz crises on global commerce.
Tajani said Italy aimed to strengthen its business presence in Türkiye and develop a broader partnership focused on economic growth. He also highlighted opportunities for Italian and Turkish companies to cooperate on projects in other markets and throughout the Mediterranean region.
After the meeting, Tajani and Bolat held discussions with representatives of Italian companies operating in Türkiye. The businesses are active in several strategic industries, including infrastructure, transportation, defense, aerospace, energy, telecommunications and steel.
The officials also examined how disruptions in the Red Sea and Strait of Hormuz are affecting international trade and creating challenges for businesses and supply chains.
