Police Say Savannah Guthrie’s Mother Likely Still Alive

FBI Reviews Ransom Notes in Guthrie Missing Case

Police Say Savannah Guthrie’s Missing Mother May Still Be Alive

Investigation Continues in Arizona

Police in Arizona say they believe Nancy Guthrie, the missing mother of US television anchor Savannah Guthrie, is still alive five days after her disappearance. However, investigators have not yet identified a suspect.

Pima County Sheriff Chris Nanos said authorities are operating on the assumption that the 84-year-old remains alive. He added that officers will continue to pursue the case with that belief until they find her.

FBI Reviews Ransom Notes

Meanwhile, the FBI confirmed it is reviewing two ransom notes linked to the case. Officials also said they arrested one person for sending a fake ransom note.

At a news briefing on Thursday, FBI Special Agent Heith Janke said one of the notes had been sent to several media organisations. The message included a payment deadline of 17:00 on Thursday, though it did not specify a time zone. It also listed a second deadline set for Monday.

The note contained specific references to an Apple Watch and a floodlight at Nancy Guthrie’s home, details investigators are now examining closely.

Family Appeals for Contact

On Thursday night, members of the Guthrie family released their second video appeal this week, urging anyone holding their mother to make contact.

“Whoever is out there holding our mother, we want to hear from you,” said her son, Camron Guthrie. He stressed the need for communication so the family could move forward, adding that they first need confirmation that their mother is alive.

In kidnapping cases, negotiators typically ask for proof of life before entering discussions. Authorities said the Guthrie family understands that time remains critical.

Timeline Under Review

Investigators also shared new details about the timeline of Nancy Guthrie’s disappearance during the briefing. Officials said they continue to analyse evidence while expanding search efforts.
