Carney Launches Trade Mission to Diversify Canada’s Economy

Canada’s Prime Minister, Mark Carney, embarks on a trade-focused trip to India, Australia, and Japan this week, aiming to strengthen international partnerships and reduce the country’s dependence on the United States.

Carney will start his journey in India on Thursday, meeting Prime Minister Narendra Modi to discuss trade opportunities and economic cooperation.

Next, he will visit Australia, where he plans to meet Prime Minister Anthony Albanese and deliver a speech to the Australian Parliament. This will mark the first address by a Canadian Prime Minister to Australia’s legislature in almost two decades.

The final stop on Carney’s tour will be Tokyo, Japan, where he will hold talks with Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi.

This mission continues Carney’s recent series of international visits, reflecting Canada’s strategy to expand trade ties beyond the United States amid ongoing economic tensions with its southern neighbor.
