Xi Jinping Encourages Development Strategy Public Support Myanmar

China Myanmar Partnership Advances Economic Corridor Infrastructure Expansion

Chinese President Xi Jinping urged Myanmar’s leader Min Aung Hlaing to pursue a development path aligned with national conditions and supported by the public during high-level talks in Beijing on Tuesday.

Xi welcomed Min with an official ceremony before holding discussions focused on strengthening bilateral ties and expanding cooperation between the neighboring countries. He emphasized that China views relations with Myanmar as a priority within its regional diplomacy and supports efforts to balance development goals with national security needs.

The Chinese leader reaffirmed the importance of the China-Myanmar Economic Corridor, describing it as a key component of the Belt and Road Initiative. Both sides reviewed progress on major infrastructure projects and discussed measures to ensure their security and long-term stability.

Xi noted that economic cooperation should contribute to improving living standards and promoting sustainable growth in Myanmar. He also reiterated China’s support for Myanmar’s sovereignty and territorial integrity.

Min Aung Hlaing began a five-day state visit to China on Monday at Xi’s invitation. The trip marks his first visit to China since assuming the presidency earlier this year. During his stay, he is also expected to meet Chinese Premier Li Qiang and senior legislator Zhao Leji.

The visit highlights efforts by both nations to deepen political, economic, and infrastructure cooperation. China remains Myanmar’s largest trading partner, with bilateral trade valued at approximately $19.4 billion last year, supported by extensive collaboration in energy, infrastructure, and cross-border commerce.
