Trump Questions USMCA Trade Agreement Future Direction

USMCA Deal Criticized by Trump Economic Position Statement

US President Donald Trump has stated that the United States would be better off without the US-Mexico-Canada Agreement (USMCA), casting doubt on the future of the regional trade pact.

Speaking to reporters after arriving in Paris following the G7 summit, Trump said the US performs better economically when it is not bound by such agreements. He emphasized his belief that the country could achieve stronger results without the trade framework in place.

Despite his criticism, Trump noted that he may still consider signing the agreement, though he reiterated his view that the United States would benefit more if it operated independently of the pact.

The comments have added uncertainty to ongoing discussions about North American trade relations, particularly among the United States, Canada, and Mexico. The USMCA remains a central framework governing trade and economic cooperation across the region.

Trump’s remarks are expected to draw attention from policymakers and analysts as debates continue over tariffs, supply chains, and the future direction of US trade policy.
