Several Bosnian victims’ associations have submitted a complaint to UEFA, asking the European football governing body to take disciplinary action against FC Borac Banja Luka over what they describe as repeated glorification of convicted war criminal Ratko Mladic during the club’s matches.
The groups said supporters had repeatedly displayed banners, symbols and messages praising Mladic, describing the incidents as a serious breach of UEFA’s disciplinary regulations.
Mladic, a former Bosnian Serb military commander, was convicted by the International Criminal Tribunal for the former Yugoslavia of genocide, crimes against humanity and war crimes committed during the 1992–95 Bosnian war.
The associations called on UEFA to investigate the reported incidents and impose appropriate sanctions if the club is found to have violated the governing body’s rules.
Mladic was sentenced to life imprisonment in 2017. His conviction and sentence were upheld on appeal by the UN Mechanism for International Criminal Tribunals in 2021.
He died on August 27 while serving his sentence at a prison in The Hague, Netherlands.
