Sudanese Army Chief of Staff Gen. Yasir Al-Atta said Tuesday that government forces would continue their military advance without interruption as fighting with the Rapid Support Forces RSF continues across several parts of the country.
Speaking while inspecting army units, Al-Atta said the next phase of operations would involve all forces, including troops stationed at military positions and those deployed on front lines. He said the army’s objective was to protect civilians rather than seek revenge, describing it as a national military force.
Al-Atta accused the RSF of carrying out systematic killings in areas including El Geneina, El Fasher and Blue Nile State, alleging that some attacks were based on ethnicity. He also accused the group of recruiting children. The RSF did not immediately respond to the allegations.
The army chief also promised that government forces would advance toward Darfur, saying the military intended to protect residents from alleged violations and restore security and stability in the region.
His comments came as clashes continued on several fronts, particularly across North, West and South Kordofan, where fighting between the army and RSF has persisted since October 25.
Sudan has been experiencing a devastating conflict between the army and the RSF since April 2023. The war has killed tens of thousands of people and forced around 13 million people from their homes, according to UN and international estimates.
