Amtrak’s Chicago-Miami Route Now Open

Amtrak has introduced a temporary route between Chicago and Miami, named the Floridian, due to the upcoming East River Tunnel project in New York. The journey, lasting over 40 hours, includes stops in Cleveland, Pittsburgh, Washington D.C., Jacksonville, Orlando, and Tampa before reaching Miami.

The route combines Amtrak’s Capitol Limited and Silver Star services, with the first trip occurring on November 10. One-way tickets start at $110.

Passengers in coach class enjoy spacious reclining seats with no middle seat, ample legroom, and large windows. First Class options include roomettes—reclining seats that convert into stacked beds with shower access—and bedrooms, which offer more space and an in-room bathroom and shower. Accessible bedrooms are available for passengers with disabilities.

The route also provides a traditional dining car service, complimentary for First Class private room passengers, with the option to add it to coach tickets for an extra fee.

Meanwhile, Silver Meteor trains will continue operating between New York and Miami.
