Eleven Arrested After Honour Killing of Couple in Balochistan
Authorities in Balochistan have arrested 11 suspects after a video went viral showing a man and woman being shot dead in a suspected honour killing. The couple had reportedly married without their families’ approval and were executed last month on the orders of a tribal council.
Balochistan Chief Minister Sarfraz Bugti confirmed the arrests, stating that the location and identities in the footage have been verified. The video shows the woman holding a Quran and telling the man to walk seven steps with her before shooting her. She stood still as she was shot and collapsed after the third bullet. The man was later seen dead beside her as more shots were fired.
The Human Rights Commission of Pakistan reported over 400 honour killings in 2024, mostly targeting women. The brutal incident has sparked nationwide outrage.
Political leaders, including Bilawal Bhutto Zardari, Khawaja Asif, and Sherry Rehman, condemned the killing and called for justice. They urged the government to end violence sanctioned by tribal councils and protect citizens’ rights.
