Morden-Winkler MLA Carrie Hiebert has been appointed to represent Manitoba on the Commonwealth Women Parliamentarians (CWP) – Canadian Region Steering Committee. In her new role, Hiebert will advocate for the perspectives of Manitoba women parliamentarians and work to advance gender equality in politics.
“It is an honor to serve as the Woman Parliamentarian for Manitoba,” Hiebert said, expressing her enthusiasm for supporting and promoting the voices of women in her province and beyond.
The CWP-Canadian Region, founded in 2005, includes elected women from every provincial, territorial, and federal legislature across Canada. Its mission is to achieve gender equality in political representation and to help young women realize their potential in public service.
Hiebert emphasized the importance of fostering female representation and tackling gender-related issues. She looks forward to collaborating with fellow women leaders from across Canada to influence positive change in both Manitoba and nationally.
Mentorship and support are key, she noted, for women entering politics, and Hiebert is committed to encouraging more women to step into political roles.
The CWP-Canadian Region Steering Committee, as the organization’s governing body, plays a vital role in promoting women’s views in politics and developing programs that further the committee’s goals of gender parity in legislatures across Canada.–News Desk
