San Luis, Ariz. – U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) officers at the San Luis Port of Entry prevented an alleged child smuggling operation on August 29, 2024. The incident involved a 28-year-old U.S. woman attempting to cross the border with two minors using falsified documents.
The woman, driving a 2007 Nissan Sentra, presented U.S. birth certificates for the children during inspection. However, further examination revealed that there was no family relationship between the woman and the minors, aged 11 and 8, both of whom were Mexican citizens without valid entry documents.
The children told officers they were given sedatives before the attempted crossing to evade detection. The woman was arrested for violating U.S. immigration law, and her vehicle was seized.
CBP officials emphasized their commitment to preventing such illegal activities, with Area Port Director Chris Leon commending the officers’ expertise in detecting the smuggling attempt. Federal law allows charges to be filed without inferring guilt until proven in court.–News Desk
