Gaza City – Israeli airstrikes continued to batter the Gaza Strip over the weekend, killing at least six Palestinians, including two children, according to local health authorities. The relentless bombardment, now entering its eighth month, has further deepened the humanitarian crisis, with medical infrastructure facing near-total collapse.
The most recent strikes targeted densely populated residential neighborhoods, with witnesses describing scenes of panic, rubble, and families torn apart. Emergency responders recovered the bodies of the children from beneath the debris in central Gaza, while four other civilians, including women and elderly residents, also lost their lives in the attack.
Health officials report that the healthcare system is on the brink of total breakdown. At least 36 hospitals and medical facilities have been bombed, raided, or besieged by the Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) since the beginning of the conflict. Among them is Gaza’s only kidney dialysis centre, now rendered inoperative, leaving hundreds of patients without life-sustaining treatment.
“The destruction is systematic,” said a spokesperson from the Ministry of Health in Gaza. “Hospitals are no longer safe zones. They are targets. The dialysis unit’s shutdown has already led to multiple preventable deaths.”
International humanitarian organizations have repeatedly condemned attacks on medical infrastructure, citing violations of international law. The World Health Organization has warned that the blockade of medical supplies and fuel has paralyzed emergency and surgical care, pushing the death toll even higher.
Despite growing global outcry, ceasefire negotiations remain stalled. With little sign of reprieve, civilians in Gaza face a worsening catastrophe — trapped in a war zone, without medical care, clean water, or a place to seek refuge.
The United Nations has called for an immediate halt to the strikes on civilian infrastructure and urged all parties to respect humanitarian law, protect medical facilities, and ensure access to essential care.
As the death toll mounts and the healthcare system collapses, the people of Gaza continue to pay the highest price in a conflict showing no signs of resolution.
