Denmark has echoed Greenland’s Prime Minister Mute Egede’s firm rejection of US President-elect Donald Trump’s suggestion that the Arctic territory should be bought by the United States. In response to Trump’s social media comments, where he argued that owning Greenland was vital for US national security, Denmark’s Prime Minister’s Office reaffirmed that Greenland is “not for sale” but remains “open for cooperation.”
The Danish government emphasized the importance of transatlantic partnerships, especially in today’s complex global security environment. While they respect Greenland’s position, they expressed optimism about future collaboration with the US under the incoming administration.
Greenland, a self-governing territory of Denmark, has repeatedly reinforced its stance on sovereignty, with Egede reminding the world that Greenland belongs to its people and will not be sold.
