Germany Pushes for UN Resolution on Trump Gaza Plan

Berlin, October 14, 2025 — Germany’s Foreign Minister Johann Wadephul renewed calls on Tuesday for a United Nations Security Council resolution supporting US President Donald Trump’s Gaza ceasefire plan.

Securing Support from Russia and China

Speaking during a press conference in Romania, Wadephul said that backing from Russia and China is crucial for the plan’s successful implementation. “Initial talks are already underway with Russia and China on a joint resolution, as far as I know. I hope this will succeed,” he said. He stressed that a legal framework is needed to allow peacekeepers from different countries to operate in the Gaza Strip.

Constructive Approach and Security Measures

Wadephul urged UN Security Council members to adopt a constructive approach. He emphasized that implementing the plan requires a strong security component, including the disarmament of Hamas. “I remain optimistic that this process will succeed because all involved remain committed. We should seize this momentum together,” he added.

International Summit and Ceasefire Progress

On Monday, President Trump and Egyptian President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi hosted a high-level summit in Sharm el-Sheikh to gather international support for the Gaza ceasefire plan.

In the plan’s first phase, Hamas released 20 Israeli captives while Israel freed nearly 2,000 Palestinian prisoners. Israeli troops withdrew from densely populated areas, and humanitarian aid began reaching the Gaza Strip. Later phases of the plan aim to demilitarize Hamas, set up a temporary technocratic governing mechanism, and deploy an International Stabilization Force (ISF) to maintain border security.
