Google to Appeal Judge’s Antitrust Ruling as Final Arguments Conclude
WASHINGTON, D.C.:
Alphabet’s Google has announced plans to appeal a federal judge’s antitrust decision, following final arguments in a high-profile trial over the tech giant’s alleged dominance in online search and digital advertising markets.
The case, led by US District Judge Amit Mehta, centers on how to address Google’s monopoly behavior after the court found it had violated antitrust laws. While antitrust enforcers proposed a 10-year restructuring plan, Judge Mehta appeared to consider less sweeping remedies during Friday’s closing hearings.
Google, in a statement posted on X (formerly Twitter), reiterated its disagreement with the initial ruling. “We will wait for the Court’s opinion. And we still strongly believe the Court’s original decision was wrong, and look forward to our eventual appeal,” the company stated.
The outcome of the case is expected to significantly shape the future regulatory landscape for Big Tech in the United States.
