Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi has held talks with Pakistan’s army chief Field Marshal Asim Munir in Tehran, focusing on diplomatic efforts to end ongoing tensions involving the United States and Iran.
The meeting took place during Munir’s visit to the Iranian capital as part of Pakistan’s broader mediation initiative aimed at de escalating the conflict that began following strikes attributed to the United States and Israel on February 28.
According to Iran’s Foreign Ministry, discussions continued late into the night, covering recent diplomatic developments and proposals aimed at preventing further escalation while promoting stability and security across the West Asian region.
Pakistan has played an active mediating role in the crisis, with Field Marshal Munir directly engaged in facilitating dialogue between Washington and Tehran. Islamabad previously helped secure a ceasefire on April 8 and later hosted high level US Iran talks on April 11 and 12, the first of their kind since 1979.
Negotiations are reportedly ongoing over proposals linked to reopening strategic maritime routes such as the Strait of Hormuz, as well as Iran’s nuclear programme and the issue of sanctions relief.
US Secretary of State Marco Rubio said there has been limited but noticeable progress in discussions between the two sides.
Meanwhile, US President Donald Trump stated earlier in the week that renewed military action against Iran had been delayed following appeals from Gulf countries, with diplomatic negotiations continuing.
