TEHRAN – Iran announced Thursday that the upcoming round of indirect nuclear talks with the United States has been postponed, citing a logistical request from Oman, the acting mediator.
Rome Meeting Called Off
The planned Saturday meeting in Rome will no longer take place, Iran’s Foreign Ministry spokesman Esmaeil Baqaei confirmed. The postponement was reportedly suggested by Omani Foreign Minister Badr Albusaidi.
U.S.: Meeting Was Never Finalized
In Washington, State Department spokeswoman Tammy Bruce stated that the Rome meeting was never officially confirmed, but noted optimism: “We expect another round of talks to take place in the near future.”
Progress in Recent Rounds
Despite the delay, both Iran and the U.S. previously acknowledged progress in three recent rounds of indirect negotiations, held on consecutive Saturdays since April 12.
