Israel Strikes Syria-Lebanon Border Crossings, Kills Two in Southern Lebanon
Israel launched air strikes on four border crossings between Syria and Lebanon on Wednesday, claiming Hezbollah used them to smuggle weapons. Earlier attacks in southern Lebanon killed at least two people and wounded nearly 20 others.
Ceasefire Violations Amid Ongoing Tensions
The strikes occurred despite a US-brokered ceasefire that ended more than a year of fighting between Israel and Hezbollah in 2024. Israel has repeatedly violated the agreement, raising concerns about renewed escalation.
Lebanon Condemns Attacks
Lebanese President Joseph Aoun condemned the attacks, calling them “a policy of systematic aggression by carrying out air strikes on inhabited Lebanese villages, in a dangerous escalation that directly targets civilians.”
He added, “This repeated aggressive behaviour reaffirms Israel’s refusal to abide by its obligations arising from the cessation of hostilities agreement.”
Humanitarian Impact
The Lebanese Ministry of Health reported that 19 people were injured in air strikes on the southern town of Qanarit. The attacks have heightened tensions and raised concerns for civilian safety along the border.
